Tried it out today on my new Imac and my airport utility does not find the airport express.Is their any way to get the Airport Express to become recognized by my Airport Utility so I can stream Itunes to powered speakers in my living room? Thanks

That should work. Is the Airport express set up to make a wireless network? If so can you join that network. Do that first and then try the utility. If the Airport express is new - try the reset button and then make the network. I have had on occasion to reset the Express with these even when everything has been previously working.
or make sure your mac and the airport have a wired connection to get it set up.
in order for the airport to show up in utility, it must be on the same network. either wired or wireless.
apple has made a "work around" that if the airport is unconfigured, airport utility will recognize the default wireless name coming from the airport and it will show up in utility, once you try to configure it, your Mac will then release from your home wi-fi, and join the network coming from the airport.
if you're trying to configure the airport to join your existing wireless network, it's much more reliable to plug an ethernet cable into the airport and get it set up that way. You can set it up somewhere that's convenient to run an ethernet cable, and then once it's configured properly, move it to it's permanent location without the wired ethernet.
