I have an Emac. It's getting old, but I haven't replaced it yet because of the whole issue with Apple not making a regular desktop computer.

I was thinking of getting a used LCD monitor for cheap, and then waiting and getting a Psystar clone, or maybe a Mini if the whole Psystar thing doesn't work out. (I wonder how long those lawsuits will take.)

If I get the monitor first and I hook it up to my Emac, can I shut off the internal CRT monitor in order to save power and make less heat? I know there also seems to be an alternative of using dual screens to get more space, but i don't think I need that.

No. Also, the iMac IS the regular Desktop computer, unless you want the mini.
