Can I use icloud to ONLY set up my gmail from one iphoneto another?

I basically want to use icloud to ONLY backup my email info and restore that to a new iphone. The reason I want to do this is because my gmail pushes the emails to my phone app and they removed that feature unless you use icloud to move it over each time from a grandfathered account. Thanks for any info!
