Can I use icloud to set up my gmail from one ipad to another?

I basically want to use icloud to ONLY backup my email info and restore that to a new ipad. The reason I want to do this is because my gmail pushes the emails to my phone app and they removed that feature unless you use icloud to move it over each time from a grandfathered account. Thanks for any info!
