can i use two different brands of video cards?

Hi can i use two different brands or models of video cards in a 4,1?

I need to drive 3-4 monitors therefore i need to add another card. just not sure if i can but the latest and greatest or if i need to match the other card.

At one time I have used a Nvidia GT120 with a Radeon 5770HD in my 4.1 machine with no problems. Currently I try to use the same brand of GPU as much as possible as a Mac tech guy advised me to use one brand of GPUs. It could be because with 2 different brands, one brand will just override the other though I may be mistaken and I don't have confirmed reports on this.
