I've had trouble doing this in the past with movies I rented from iTunes, but I haven't tried it in the last couple of years. I just rented No Time To Die and would like to watch it on a flight later today. I started the movie at home to make sure it works. Then I turned off WiFi and started it again. Still works. But I'm paranoid that it won't work because this has happened before. Any other tricks to make sure it works?

Unless it's downloaded to your device, I cannot imagine how you could watch it without internet. When you turned off Wi-Fi and it 'stilll worked', how long did you continue watching? Enough of it could have downloaded that you wouldn't notice a problem immediately. I've had movies continue to play for a little while after losing my connection.

Sorry, neglected to mention that I did download it.

There are some old articles on Apple.com that suggest that you can provided you downloaded them in advance. I have done that with Netflix content.

Just took my flight and was able to watch rented movies without a problem and without a WiFi connection. I did of course download them and start them before the flight to be safe, but not even sure if that was necessary.

I believe that even though you went through the rental process, the server will check during the initial viewing if the device you are using is authorized. I think it worked fine for you because you got through the validation.

Since all of the movies play through the TV App, I suspect all of the metadata associated with the viewing of the movie is resides there. I would think it would not be a problem, again assuming that the movie is fully downloaded as you described.
