I run an online TV/Webseries Network. I can use my iPad Air 2 for most things, I have a wireless flash drive that I keep my files on & the iCloud at all times. But I run into the problems of that whole everyday vs. Pro user thing. I have my Mac Mini as my desktop for Localhost (for bug & redesign website purposes), Full Photoshop & Final Cut Pro.
I am guilty of torrents also & kind of mad iOS still doesn't have the apps for that like Android does but hopefully with iOS 10 opening up more, we may see it. But iOS still needs Final Cut Pro & Full Photoshop. Unfortunately Mamp Pro or a localhost/server program I don't think will ever be possible on iOS due to lack of file system. But for the most part iOS can be your everyday system, aslong as you have a desktop for the 'Pro" users...

The Torrent Thing is troubling me too! But I think with WebRTC in Safari 10 we should at least be able to torrent files directly in the safari browser. There are web applications which run javascript and webrtc api on chrome browser for example and they work perfectly fine.

But maybe Apple will limit safari in such a way, that this exact use case is not properly working.

I mean, let me use torrent! Where is the problem? On Android there are many torrent apps.

I use a raspberry Pi for torrents. Ive got it running the transmission daemon, which has a web front end that I can access from the iPad. A pocket Linux server us a pretty good complement to Apple's walled garden :D

Wait, are you saying dogs are less maintenance than cats? They are less maintenance than girlfriends, certainly, but cats are the least maintenance pets there is.

Also, dogs want hot pockets/pizzas too!

:p

From a maintenance perspective cats are less, but from a ratio of maintenance to unconditional love - dogs win out! =)

I'm not sure about that. Cats can be plenty affectionate, too, though maybe not as much as dogs, and since they take so much less effort than dogs, IMO the maintenance/affection ratio about evens out. And I speak from experience, having had both dogs and cats.

Er, sorry, what was the topic, again? :p

Currently sitting here with a purring feline in my lap, hence the fact that I just had to butt in and say, cats and dogs just have to tie in the unconditional love/affection factor! :D

Totally from my own perspective! The cats I know are very stand-off-ish, whereas the dogs greet me at the door, are always so happy to see me, and always ready to play at the drop of a hat!

Was the topic something about pizza? I remember something about pizza...

I've found that cats have a wider range of personality than dogs. Practically all dogs greet their owners at the door and are ready to play at the drop of a hat. Cats, some do come to greet you at the door, others ignore you until they want to be fed. With dogs you know what you are going to get, cats are more of a lottery. No way to tell when picking one out at the shelter / pet store / friend's cat had a litter how affectionate or playful one will be when it grows up.

I think there's an operating system analogy sitting in there somewhere, but I have no idea what it could be.....

My iPad will never replace my laptop and my cats will never replace my dog but all have their own niche.

Agreed on cats and dogs never replacing each other, but not so sure of iPad / laptop. iOS has the possibility of growing up into a full-featured OS that can be the mobile computing platform of choice for the majority of users. Whether or not Apple will take it there is another story.

No, cuz I like being able to switch screens easily and minimise, much harder on a tablet.

For me - no. I use the laptop a lot for photo work while travelling. I will have several hundred (or a few thousand) RAW images that take up tens of GBs of space and that I want to transfer to a HDD. I also want to do some processing using Adobe Lightroom and my preferred pointing device for that is a mouse (I have used Wacom tablets in the past but prefer the mouse). An iPad and iOS are inadequate for my needs though I also take the iPad along as I like it as a consumption device. As I said, different niches.

I've also noticed that if you get a 128gb iPad Pro (9.7 inches) with the pen and Smart Keyboard, you pretty much pay the same amount as for a MacBook Pro. But for the same price, a MacBook Pro is much better right?

"Better" is a relative term and it depends on your usage, needs, and personal preferences. My "better" can be "worse" for someone else. That's one of the problems with these kinds of discussions - the answer can - and usually is - different for every user.

At the moment, you can't do high-level photo processing with an iPad, that's true. But that could change. Apple could come up with a way to connect terabyte hard drives to the iPad, and Adobe could come out with a full-featured Lightroom for iOS. I don't see that happening in the next few years, but somewhere down the line, it could happen. I'm not saying it definitely will happen, but I'm hoping it will.

MacBook Pro is heavier, can't detach keyboard, no touch input, can't read in portrait. No, not better. ;)

Apple has convinced many of the companies Devotees to join them in attempting to convince people that an iPad can replace their computer.

These Devotees are like Apple Evangelists, preachers of the gospel. They stand up for the company preaching the merits of iPads. It's an interesting phenomenon unique to Apple.

Those who use their computers to do work beyond just calendar, contacts, mail and such don't waste time thinking about using an iPad.
Please enlighten us who these devotees are supposed to be.
Also delighted us on your thought process why the device cannot be used for work, especially when the forum is FULL of reports of people using little more than their iPads. Again, will you go after every single user and tell them they're a paid shill?
