there are certain places I don't want to take my iPhone (beach, etc.) and I want to know if I can just pop in the iPhone SIM into a cheap phone. will it be compatible?

i know the actual SIM is removable, that's not what I'm asking. sorry for any confusion.

I asked this a while back and nobody could give a straight answer (rightfully so, we've been in the dark w/ stuff for so long). I'm interested in this also as I sometimes go to the beach and would like to have a phone on me, just not THE phone. ;)

you know ****

The iPhone doesn't use a sim card, or if it does, it is non removable.

you know ****! the iPhone DOES have a sim, the iPhone's Sim card IS REMOVABLE!
Jimmyz, STOP SPREADING LIES AND KEEP YOUR HATE OF IPHONE TO YOURSELF!!!

I dont remember where i read it, but i read that the phone does have a sim, A PREINSTALLED SIM!!...so the sim you have today is worthless. not sure if it is removable..but i doubt it!

ok ilounge reports
"AT&T also notes that iPhone ships with a SIM card pre-installed in its removable tray... "

Is this some sort of joke or are you high or drunk? I don't hate the iPhone, in fact I am buying one, and I was told this by two other macrumor members when I made a post asking a similar questions, so I was just passing along info. Seriously, take your head out of your ass and take a chill pill, its just a stupid phone.

Do people even read the other threads here? SIM Removable...tray on top of phone. You'll need a paperclip to pop the tray open.

Look at the 360-view on the Apple website.. it shows the removable tray on the top of iPhone.

are you guys referring to me? because that's not what i'm asking at all. i know it has a removable sim. this has been known since January and is by far one of the most ridiculous rumors out there. all i'm asking is: will the iphone sim be compatible with another att phone?

No I was replying to other comments in the thread, and in complete agreement with you. I'm hoping (and dont see any reason why it wouldnt) that you can use the iPhone SIM card in another AT&T phone; I'd hate to take my iPhone snowboarding with me in the winter. :)

Answer: Yes

I've found the following in an AT&T customer service manual:
Apple Global Sales Training/AT&T Learning Services iPhone Launch Training Participant Guide:

If a customer decides to insert their iPhone SIM card into another AT&T device they will have the following experience:
  1. Visual Voicemail will not be available, however regular voicemail will be accessible by pressing “1” to hear messages.
  2. MEdiaNet will be used to access the Internet. MMS and IM messages are included in the customer’s iPhone Data Plan.
  3. Contacts will not be accessible via the SIM.
  4. Contacts added to the SIM while in another device will not be synced back to iPhone

The iPhone doesn't use a sim card, or if it does, it is non removable.

As its been said over and over ... wrong ....

Sorry for the crappy pic but I took it with my iphone and emailed it to myself :p

Anyways that is the tray (removed) and the included sim card.

Yes, my iPhone SIM works fine in my old Blackjack.

Of course it feels like I've been transported back to the 80s or something. :)

and 20 posts later we have our answer!

thank you!

No problem. BTW, that was a locked blackjack I tried (locked to AT&T obviously)

And I've also tried it in an unlocked Motorola, and naturally that works, too.

So this means nobody has to take his/her iPhone to the beach. :)
