To clarify- right now if someone texts me to my phone number itself, it doesnt go to messages. If someone sends me a text to my email, it goes to messages. Am I doing something wrong?

In iOS 6 you'll be able to link your phone number to your icloud account. Then it will work flawlessly.

Nope, that's what happens. We need to wait for iOS6 so Apple give us an option to sync the numbers and emails together...

Now I'm confused on how that works? You can only get an iMessage from someone with an iOS device. When they iMessage your cell phone from their device, it shows in Messages as well.

If someone who doesn't own an iOS devices sends you a text, it will not show in Messages, right? But it will with the iOS6 integration?

Finally. This should have been the case all along. Right now the iMessages apps on the iPad and Mac OS are useless since most people who text using it text to my number not my e-mail.

Are you talking strictly about your iPhone friends texting your number?

Well yeah, most people who text me do so from their phone with their iPhone. They use my phone number because they do not know where I am typically.

However, when I am at home and using my Mac or iPad I would prefer to be able to get the message there and respond, rather than have to reach for my phone (which typically sits on its dock when not in use).

Also, if I open the iMessages app, I would like to be able to continue conversations I started on my phone (and vice-versa). This is not presently possible until they let you link your phone number and e-mail so that any message sent to you goes to all your devices. Yet this is something that should have been a standard feature from Day 1, IMO.
