Can my iPhone be unlocked? 3GS 4.2.1?

With the baseband you currently have on the phone, it can't be unlocked. There is way to upgrade your baseband to the one that can be unlocked. My recommendation is for you to read Dev Team's blog on this and decide whether you want to do that or not.

Any idea when

Any idea when it should be unlockable? I am in Iraq for 7 more months and would like to be able to unlock it and use one of the local sim cards. I looked in to the AT&T global texting and it isn't worth it.

Hi Chris,
As per your signature, you have 2 3GS. If your 3GSs have current baseband on them, then you can not unlock them. However, there is way to get around it and get them unlock.
Can you tell me what firmware & baseband you have on your phones first?
Setting >General>About
Look at the version & Modem Firmware to see what #s you have there.

That is exactly what I want to say. But, I want to make sure what baseband he has on his phones. He might not have the latest firmware & baseband and if that the case, they can be unlocked easily.
