Can NFC on the iPhone 6s be used for other things other than Apple Pay? If memory serves me its a closed off system just for Apple pay. I was hoping you might be able to use it for pairing a dslr or something. Cheers!

Technically yes but Apple restricts it's use.

It may be something Apple decides to open up down the road. Remember when the GPS in an iPhone was limited to Apple's lame google maps implementation? Then later they opened it up to turn by turn navigation apps.

Maybe but the GPS still was being used for the same function. Currently, NFC activates Apple Pay on the iPhone. If Apple opens the API, then how does the iPhone differentiate between a credit-card read or another NFC Device (like on someone's laptop or iPhone)?

They may be able to do it if an NFC App is running in the foreground...

No it isn't. Only apple pay. Another example of Apple restricting their devices and OS.

i wish. i can never tell how much money is left on my student id to pay for the meals. on my android i could place the card on my phone and it would tell me

I'm wondering if this is why they enabled the double the double tap home for Apple Pay thing.

NFC is great on Android for quick pairing with bluetooth devices.

I noticed that the new wireless beats speakers don't come with an NFC pairing option. Are Apple so obtuse that they cant possibly forsee that some Android users might be using their beats speakers and enjoy the convenience of NFC pairing?
