I used disk utility to clone the drive I done all this stuff the guy says in the video
got this message when it finished it failed to do it.
APFS *Inverter Failed to Invert the volume Os Status error 22?*
This is what was showing under the installer
Disk OS1
2GB
128GB Used
721.9 MB
Zero Purgeab
The Mac os Base was high listed? Connection Disk image
APFS same as the Mac drive it said mac HD copy to my 2mvne sad why has this failed? I tried it with another disc the same this happened.was not bootable? it says Container disk 3 used 438 GB? when my MAC HD drive is only 78gb used what I doing wrong What is a container disk?
? How am I be getting so much more data on the clone drive that on the MAC HD?
Another thing is nothing shows up when trying to reinstall an OS?
When I click startup disk nothing shows?
I also tried Superduper it kept on telling asking me to register it, when I clicked about registering later it went back to the start? Is Superduper paid for only? I am at a loss to know what I am doing wrong? I did not get the message asking me if I wanted to use it for a time machine
I was using a brand new 2M SSD. WHY IT GO TO MAC BASE SYSTEM?

SuperDuper has a free version with no frills. Also, you can use Carbon Copy Cloner for free for 30 days (trial). I prefer CCC over SuperDuper, however both work well.

Thanks for that but why does it not work with disk utility? It starts with the clone drive but goes straight to the mac base? I am just hoping this works. All working fine, and very quick too.

It’s a known bug in the latest version of Catalina that was released a few days ago. If you are on that version you have to wait till it is fixed

on the land line mr. smith.
Disk Utility has been picky and flaky (off and on) over the years regarding cloning. As mentioned, there are some really good third-party tools that are easier and more reliable....and there many more beyond CCC and SD, although they are two of the best.

Also mentioned...there is a new issue with 10.15.5. What OS are you trying to clone?

It has been done now , plus the fact it did it in no time, unlike Disk utility which took ages and then to tell me it had failed., why does it take so long with Disk utility? It does it in time with CCC. My Mojave HD.

Use either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. (instead of disk utility)
Much better that way...

Glad you got it done. I too have always wondered why Apple does not fix/improve DU to make easy to create a bootable clone.

Years ago ( I have no idea if this is still true) DU would make an exact copy....including all the empty space. Took a long time write out all the empty space, and, the destination always had to be bigger than the drive you were cloning....not just bigger than the amount of data you were cloning. Once CCC and other good, free tools came along, I almost never tried with DU. There was never a good reason to use it compared to better alternatives.

I want use DU to clone again I don,t know why it went from the cloning drive to the base system? .I did do it a couple of years ago and it worked fine.

Geez.
Read what I wrote in #7 above.

If you want to "clone" a drive, use an app that was specifically made to do it.
CCC or SD.
They make it easy.
Why do you want to make things harder?

Well...you are making my point. DU has a history of being strange about "restoring" bootable systems.

If it was fast, easy, and reliable with every new MacOS release...there would be no market for paid third party tools, much less free ones. The fact that there are so many very good options other than DU proves most folks don't use it.

You might ask yourself: why should you use DU when most Mac users don't?

Well, I won't be using it, plus the fact that the CCC is free for a trial of 14 days.
