iPad Pro Can not explain it but email takes forever to refresh sometimes

Is it because I turned off background refresh on iOS?

This happens at home and when out and about.

Sometimes happens on my iPhone too but did not really when I first got it.

Kind of vague... email can take "a while" to refresh for several entirely legitimate reasons, depending on settings.

If you force refresh, does that come through quickly?
Does it matter if on mobile data or wifi?
What email accounts?

For me, it's an Apple thing.

Happens to me on iPhone and iPad, wifi on or off, whatever iOs / iPadOS version. For years.

Apple broke mail syncing in iOS 13. I’ve given up hope for a fix.
