Before I was running os x, then it became corrupt. I took my laptop to the MAC store and the guy said that he could not repair it so I should just do a clean install of Panther. However when I tried that Panther says that it can not install on my computer since there is no previous version of os x on it. This makes no sense to me. I have panther and it's on 3 cds, how can it need anything else? Also why would the MAC store guy tell me to do that if it does not work? My laptop did not come with the os x cds (but os x was installed on it). I did buy panther to upgrade, but do I now have to buy os x, install os x and then upgrade it to panther? Why can't I just install it right off the panther cds? I hope that I do not sound too confusing/confused, I really am though.

What model is this laptop? Probably doesn't matter, but just curious. You say it became corrupt, what do you mean exactly? If there is a hardware problem with your hard disk, this could be causing the problem. I'd also say to try to startup using "option" or hold C. Although, I think if the install CD is in the drive it starts up with that anyway (right?)

p.s. before anyone yells at you, it's just Mac, not MAC
