Hello,
I've got two Macbook Air 2017 (13 inch), bought together. One has a broken battery, the other a broken display.
How easy is it for the (authorized) repair service to combine the two "halves" that work just fine into one Macbook where everthing's OK?
Do the two Macbooks have to be sent to Apple?
In the extreme, is there no chance of a successful transplantation, neither locally nor by Apple?
Thanks for any help!
Georg

Apple won’t do the work. You’d have to buy new parts from them. I don’t think any third party authorized shop would do it either. You’d need to stick with independent shops.

I agree with @velocityg4's assessment. This work is possible, but neither Apple nor an authorized shop will accept a task like this as it's not their standard protocol and the cannot guarantee success. You might be able to find an independent technician who would do it. I doubt it's going to be cheap however, especially if you want the procedure to work.

Frankly, selling those two laptops for parts and getting a new M1 air will probably be a better deal.

Its not too difficult at all if you’re even basically mechanically inclined. You can do it in an evening. Once you're out of warranty, there’s no reason not to get your little screwdriver kit out, poke around, familiarize yourself with everything in there, and one piece at a time photo everything, keep your fasteners and brackets organized on the table around you, and pull it apart.
