can one search in notes?

Can one search for specific strings in notes? I have a lot of data on my Palm and would love to switch to an iphone or ipod touch. On the Palm, I can search for anything, such as my car's VIN, or an ingredient in a recipe, should I want it. I would like to store a lot of info on the Apple device but it is useless unless I can locate it quickly.

I just tried to do this and it does search within the notes for your query, i might use notes more!

You can with spotlight in 3.0.

You can search content in Notes (syncs with Mail.app) which makes it much more useful than storing content in email. With email you can only search FROM,TO and SUBJECT and not content.

Yes you can, in iPhone 3.0 OS. You can search notes both from within the Notes app AND from spotlight.
