Can PDF's be converted to Kindle on my imac?

I've tried Calibre, but the conversion is almost unreadable.

Or, if PDF is just not going to be converted to Kindle, is there a way to load PDF books into something else? Something that I can read on my phone or even something third party for my Samsung tablet that will keep a bookmark of where I'm up to?

Amazon has a service where you can email a PDF to your Kindle and it will convert it for you. Have you tried that?
