've upgraded to windows 7 using parallel. Originally I installed Windows xp by partitioning my drive and using bootcamp. Now it seems that parallel loads windows xp with bootcamp and Windows 7. There are a few programs in XP I wanted to keep. Can I get rid of my partitioned drive to utilize that space? When I open my applications in mac osx I see a folder that parallel created that has all the programs in Windows xp bootcamp.

It sounds as if you installed XP in bootcamp, and windows 7 as a strictly virtual machine. If so, if you remove your XP partition everything on it will be gone, the shortcuts you see are just that, shortcuts. I'd install everything you needed in 7, and then blow out the partition with 'boot camp assistant'.
