Can someone confirm these faults from Catalina, please?

Books app:
- Chapters of an audiobook not visible until you start playing a book. You have to click the list icon in the lower left to get a list of the chapters. I'd love the main list view to have disclosure triangles so I can pick which chapter to start playing.

Music app:
- Does it still check your library for two minutes every time you launch it?
- Does it still try to upload new items you've just dragged onto the window and stop you from editing their meta tags until it has finished uploading, then refuse to change them because they don't match what's in iCloud? (I have to turn off my internet connection before I add items to be able to edit properly.)

TV app:
- Movies that have been downloaded to your Mac sometimes show the iCloud icon meaning the app doesn't think they're downloaded. You can play them, but it streams it rather than loading from your drive. You cannot just drag the file into the window to make it use that, and you cannot try to locate it because the iCloud download icon is there. You actually have to download the file AGAIN before you can interact with the file that's actually on your drive. Annoying.

Finder:
- Does it still crash when you create a folder with the selected items?
- Do the rows in list view still not correctly show alternating row colours when you move files around?
- Does it still show the spinning beach ball when you try to do anything with an external drive (even over TB3?).

you do realize that those are issues you're having, not universal catalina issues? so how can anyone answer this? seems it would be more productive to go on the catalina forum, and get help with these things, rather than post here...

No for me on Catalina or Big Sur.

No issues for me either. Might be good to take Stefdar's suggestion. As it is, once OS 10.15.6 is released, I will be doing a clean, fresh installation of it, even though I am having no issues with Catalina, OS 10.15.4.

Just curious, did you initially do a clean install of Catalina? I will definitely be doing a clean install of Big Sur.

On the same note, can anyone tell me if the podcasts issue has been fixed? In Catalina they changed the way metadata is handled for podcasts, so whenever I sync my iPod classics or even iOS devices over cable, no artwork gets carried over. Was this fixed? I kept submitting bug reports but they never got responded to.

Yes, but I did not start until OS 10.15.3 was released. That's because I had to wait until the last of one of the critical applications I use, Tech Tool Pro, had an update for Catalina compatibility. But that was fine, as 1) Mojave was working fine, and 2) by the time OS 10.15.3 was released, Apple had fixed just about all the bugs.

Additionally, and this has been the same for just about all the mac OS releases, there has been nothing "earth shattering" that I needed to have with the each new version of the OS.

I suspect the same will be true with Big Sur, OS 11.x, and that I will not be moving to it right away, again needing to wait until all the third party applications I use are compatible with OS 11.x. But that's fine. Catalina easily satisfies my needs.

10.15.4 was the first version of Catalina I used and that was a clean install. I will probably wait until 11.4 (or however they will be numbering Big Sur for the 4th point release) before I switch to Big Sur.

That is a wise approach. Typically, though, given I have had to wait for Tech Tool Pro to have a compatible version of its software, I have been able to start with the .3 version of whatever new mac OS is present. That has always worked well with me, though my computing tasks are not very complex, nor very challenging. But again, for me, it's the third party compatibility that is critical, as I use only third party software.

Thanks for your replies. This was a fresh install as it was a brand new Mac Pro bought in January. I did not restore from a backup.

I am sorry, but these aren't just things that are happening to me. Take the problem I noted with the Books app, for instance. Are you saying you can see the chapters in an audiobook without playing it? It can't just be my installation of Catalina that's decided to tell the Books app to behave completely differently to everyone else...?

Where do you see the chapters of an audiobook other than in that little floating menu?

My point with this was that I have some audiobooks that are released chapter by chapter, so I drag the first chapter onto the window and it's there and I can play it. A week later I'll drop the second chapter on, and so on. A few weeks later, I don't know if I've added all 7 released chapters and in order to see that I now have to play the book just to get that little player window to appear whereupon I can finally see what chapters are stored. It's a UX issue that Apple don't seem to want to fix since they closed my bug report without resolution. Are you guys okay with how it works?

In the TV app, I bought The Invisible Man (2020). I have already downloaded it to my Mac, but the TV app shows the iCloud download icon:

And the right-click context menu shows that the app *can* remove the download.

Selecting to show the file in the Finder does show it, so why is the iCloud download icon there? And why is it there for this movie and 17 other random ones in my library? (Again, brand new user account and brand new library created when I bought the Mac.)

So, there are issues in the apps. Can someone confirm they are also seeing them? I have raised these as bugs with Apple and they have also closed this TV.app issue without resolution.

Sorry, the point of my post was to determine whether these issues that I experience in Catalina are present in Big Sur, so this is the right place to post them.

I'm getting that bug too, even with a clean install.

yes, some people are experiencing those issues; they aren't universal, so there's no way people who don't have these problems can confirm that you won't experience them in big sur. but good luck sorting it out!
