so I bought the sim free version... how does esim work? Can I activate it with att without having to open and Insert my current sim to the new Max?

The one thing I heard that was a bummer is that only one SIM can be CDMA. So you can't have two Verizon lines, for example. If I was going to use this for work, I'd then have to have a completely separate account, and using two 'different' towers (or coverage areas from perhaps the same towers, but you get what I mean).

WTF is that for, can't have two of the same thing, interference? Internal incompetence from VzW? That never happens... :D

eSIM is not enabled for Friday's release.

When it is enabled, you will use the carrier's app to activate it, or alternately scan a QR code provided by your carrier.

usually carriers will configure the esim for you or have instructions on how to do so

i doubt AT&T will accept an esim... US carriers tend to view the sim as their link to the end customer. anything that makes breaking that link easier (e.g. esims or other soft sims) they usually don’t allow. that said, the Apple Watches use esims but that is cause they need to tether to iPhone which in return is linked to a carrier

So one could choose never to activate eSIM and just use a nano sim card instead?
Based on the info that's available right now, it seems like you could stay forever on your nano SIM if you wanted, but if you ever wanted to use dual SIM, you'll have to activate the eSIM.

AT&T is already using eSIM for the Watch and has announced they will support eSIM for the Xs when Apple provides an update later this year.

I do believe the physical SIM is the primary and eSIM is for secondary (as a mandatory order, at least for now)? Not sure that was in the support doc as a requirement, but I skimmed it quickly.. :D
