Damnit, I am completely hooked! Playing survival mode, no less! It's just so relaxing, going hunting for resources during the day and doing construction work in my cabin at night! :D

And I know I am just scratching the surface right now. The whole complexity with potions, enchantments, electrical wizardry and stuff is so intimidating...

Looks like I'll be spending quite some time with this!!

Sidenote: Is there no way to pause this game?? I hit "Options" (PS4) to enter the menu, then went to get a drink. When I came back, monsters had killed me and blown up my house. :(

Nope, its basically running a server emulation, as if you were the sole person in a multiplayer server. No pausing.

Interesting. Is it related to playing in "internet" mode, which would allow friends to join me? If I turn it off and play "offline", will it let me pause?

Nope. You basically have to quit the level or quit the game. I'll try offline mode next time.

So where do I find iron? ;)

You have to go deeper! Generally you'll want to dig a staircase down a bit or find an above ground cave opening that leads down. If you listen while digging, you can often hear monsters behind the walls. Monsters spawn in dark spaces so where monsters are, there are dark walkways and caves. So head their way to find the caves and usually on the walls of the caves you can find iron easily.

A long while back, one could make flint and steel and if you set 1 thing on fire, everything attached to it that was flammable would burn. Accidentally light a tree on fire? Say goodbye to the whole forest. Build your house out of wood? Little pig, little pig, let me in... it's gonna burn. At least now it goes out after a while. Be glad monsters are the most of you worries!

Man, this game is big, and it's a huge time sink. :D

The map is just phenomally large. I left the area covered by my paper map on boat, and there was still much more stuff to see....it was hard navigating my way back to my home base!

I built a two story beach house with a rooftop garden, a water moat to fend off monsters, and a "garage" for the boat, leading directly into the sea. Then a tree house on top of the tallest jungle tree, with a connected jacuzzi platform on the tree next to it. And a house built into the side of a tall mountain. And I'm not tired of it yet! :D

I have found plenty of iron and coal, but no other ores yet. How deep can you actually go underground?

Until you hit bedrock! It's quite a way down. I think on the PC version it's 256 blocks from the very bottom to the very top, I imagine the new console version is the same.

A quick cave exploration tip... as you go down your mine/caves, place torches on the right hand walls only. If you neeeed light on the left side place those torches on the floor. Then when you get lost (and you will), you can almost always find your way out by making sure torches are on your left as you head back up.

But that's the best part! Getting lost underground is what broke me into the game.

Finally hit bedrock! :)

Found some gold, diamonds, a few emeralds and a lot of redstone.

Now I need to figure out how to use all that stuff! :D

Just wait until you start with mods and figure out red stone :D

Redstone: I built an elevated powered railway between my beach residence and my treehouse. Also a dispenser that shoots arrows at zombies knocking on my door, activated by a button inside the house. :)

No mods for PS4 edition though, I'm afraid. What kind of cool mods are there for PC?
