We're on a 4 line family share and even factoring in the subsidized phones, we save $120 ($280 if upgrade fee not waived) on the 10GB plan for the life of the contract compared to a 700 min, unlimited text and tiered data on each line ($240/mo). The big savings is now, we don't have to keep paying for the phone subsidies if we choose to keep our phones for more than 2 years and really, the only reason my parents even replace their phones is because their batteries don't hold a charge anymore and it's hard to find replacement OEM batteries.

Fair enough. To be fair, I do know that some people save when they have more lines on the plan. Glad it works for you.

Also, that sounds like my parents. :p

Why do so many Next and Edge threads have so much inaccurate information? Doesn't anybody call or visit an AT&T store? Your fan discount stacks with the $15 or $25 discount. Next and Edge plans are for people who might want to upgrade earlier than 2 years, or like me, purchase used phones, rarely new. My AT&T plan for smartphone and IPad with 10GB plan is $107/ month before taxes, With Fan discount and Next credit. I'm going to jump on the promo 30GB plan. I switched from Verizon and couldn't happier with the money I'm saving.

I'm not sure why there is so much bad information or confusion.

Everybody keeps looking for the 'boogeyman' or hidden trap, but NEXT is actually a pretty fair deal. If you asked people to come up with a system for moving off subsidized phones, this is probably what they would come up with.

It's MUCH better than the old system of paying the subsidized data rate even when your contract is up. I do agree that NEXT is most beneficial to family plans with more than 2 users....especially if users BYOD to their account or kids who have 'hand me down' phones.

While you can definitely use both discounts at the same time, they don't really stack. By stacking, I mean for the line fee and e.g. 20% fan, you'll pay ($40 - $25) - 20% = $12.

FAN discount only applies to the base GB plan. Not the line access fees.

Lol, I think old people are generally like that. They're not fond of change. I gave my iPhone 5 to my dad and got him an Otterbox Defender case. He loves the thing now but he was complaining about having to switch from his Motorola flip brick when I first gave it to him. I think I'll probably get him a couple of spare Otterboxes (seen them for $5 a piece at the local AT&T) and if the battery goes, I'll just pay Apple for battery replacement. Mind, aside from general slowness, my original iPhone still functions fine so I have high hopes for his 5. :p

If you're on a 10 gig or higher, add 600 to the cost of the phone on a 2 year contract. Is it more than the retail? Do next. If not, do 2-year. I haven't seen a situation on the 10 gig+ plans where a 2-year makes sense.

Also don't forget if you do 15 Gb plan or higher this month they double it (so 30 gb for the 15gb price) and you get to keep it forever unless you downgrade to a smaller data plan.

It will cost me $25/month for the additional 20GB with the promo plan. AT&T is on a roll. I don't use public WiFi, except the occasional Apple Store in malls :), so I will use 80 to 90%.Another nice benefit of no contract plans, no more threads were posters are whining about hating device/carrier but the contract has them locked down:)
