Can someone explain what happened to my Photoshop layers?

My layers palette looks very different from what I'm used to and is not acting the same. Am I missing something obvious?

Resetting the workspace doesn't help. Is this a PS update I just didn't notice?

They only "unusual" thing I notice is the absence of the thumbnail, which is set via Panel Options... (None, Small, Medium, Large).
