Hi, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me launch a website that has help for all things AppleScript and/or Cocoa-Carbon. I really don't know where to start, I want to have it public so people everywhere can see it, it also needs Comments and a Forum. Not necessarily as good as this Forum but a forum. I can create the graphics. All I need is a free server that will host my site indefinitely without shutting it. If anyone has a server and is willing to help me or has tips on free ones...I would really appreciate it. It would also maybe need a registration service to download help or fixed apps.

    Thanks in advance...:D:D:D

    For Free?!

The first one that comes to mind is

Setting up a forum is something that people are always interested in. Be aware that most forums fail, since people set them up without having a user base to begin with. Promoting and making your forum topical and relevant is very hard indeed, if you ask me!

Free forums are not the greatest thing in the world. You're limited in what you can do with free server space and you've got no reliability/guarantees that the server will always be up. In this day and age webspace is very cheap indeed. All you need is some space that will allow you to run php scripts and you can install any forum software that you like.

The main two that you'll hear about our phpBB, which is free ( and vBulletin ( which here. vBulletin will set you back a few dollars but a lot are quite happy to do that, personally I went for phpBB as it suited my needs.

Much the same goes for free webspace in general, you don't really get anything for nothing. You're restricted on what you can do and it's more hassle than it's worth. Web hosting isn't something that has to be expensive. Just Google for webhosts and you'll come across many companies that range in price. I'm sure you'll find one that suits your budget!

As for hosting, I use They offer about 2GB's of storage and have reliable servers. For forums, I'd recommend phpBB3, MyBB, or SMF. vBulletin is nice if you need a lot of features, but I find it a little bloated. You can find better ones for free.
