Could someone please blow up this picture so the words can be read? It's in Russian.
I don't think there is enough detail there to be able to read it ever. It's not like in movies where you can take a low resolution picture and make it readable.
+1 Definitely not enough detail. I don't think even something like Lucis could get detail from it.
unless you have a considerably higher resolution image there's no way that's going to come out clear, the text is too blurred so there's no defined shapes to enhance.
Come on guys i am sure one of you have been working on a multi phase enhancing algorithm that would bring out every little detail, then all we need to do is zoom and enhance and run a simple translation matrix on the Russian characters to translate them to English.
It looks so easy in CSI, though...
Amateurs! It's in Photoshop, under Filters, right next to the "Age Ten Years" and the "Remove Beard & Glasses" filters.
OP there are no other shots of this tombstone are there?
I'm not quite as pessimistic as the others who've replied so far. I think if someone knew Russian well, and could play around in Photoshop with sharpness, contrast, definition, etc, then they'd be able to make out 90% of what is says.
The reason I say that isn't judt wild optimism, but the way the brain sees and reads. If that was in English, i'm confident I could make out the words because we don't need to be able to see every detail of each individual letter - our reading works on the general shape of words, and there is enough detail in the picture to get that. For some words you'll find different adjustments in Photoshop will help different words, but without knowing what the words should look like (because I don't know the language) it's impossible to manipulate the image and know whether i've made the critical details better or worse.
So sorry that doesn't help directly, but i think you need to direct your question to people fluent in Russian with a little bit of photo editing background, rather than people with just the photo editing experience.
I quite agree with this for most of the image however the pessimistic response from myself still holds that we can't add detail to this, and sharpening may not make the text any more legible than it already is.
We do have the technology, never doubt it. 8)

Very interesting that it says I love Mother in English at the bottom... care to explain?
Best wishes Radio...
@Mickbab - Dude, that was epic.
The pictures do lack detail. I am not very optimistic. How many pictures do you have?
I used to work on developing image processing algorithms that would use multiple images from different angles and register them to get better detail.
These algorithms worked quite well, but they were specifically calibrated for ultrasound images.
Google up the terms
Deformable image registration
Maybe someone already has tools for this.
BTW: That CSI thing is just awesome! "Look like our killer.....is screwed...Yeeaah" - Genius!
I think you folks need glasses
OP, you've watched too many science fictions.
Sorry, limited pixels. This one is super funny: http://youtu.be/gF_qQYrCcns
Enhancement - see attached
See the enhancement attached: used a couple of techniques including multi-image averaging, noise removal and feature enhancement - we do things like this at work skylarkdvd.com You're welcome to contact me there.
I think the second date is 14 Mar 1929 ?
It actually helps to blur it further before reading.
Hope that helps, Pete
