Can the iPhone 3G Dock Scratch the iPhone 3G?

Could using the iPhone 3G dock scratch the iPhone 3G? I've heard a few people say that it could. I think my dock for the first-gen iPhone put a little scratch on the black and might've discolored it a little. What are your experiences with the first one? I just don't want to scratch up my new iPhone.
