Can the keyboard scratch the MacBook's screen when the lid is closed?

I've always wondered if the gap between the keyboard and the screen is big enough that when the lid is closed, the keyboard won't accidentally scratch the screen?

Highly unlikely unless you carry your MB in a stuffed backpack with extra pressure/weight against the display.

Over decades of using MBP's, MBA's and old Power Books just about all of them left the outline of keyboard marks on the displays. A few times per month I wipe them away using a microfiber cloth (with no liquid on it).

That's concerning since no MacBook has Gorilla Glass or a Ceramic Shield on it. Sucks that the keyboard marks show up on the screen. This leads me to think there is literally no gap between the keyboard and the screen. I don't understand why Apple designed things like that. I wonder if there is any accessory to put in between the keyboard and screen to avoid having marks show up or a screen protector?

I have experienced light marks on the Nano display on my M4 MBP. I carry it in a soft sided briefcase with a dedicated padded pocket. The pressure from being in a bag does create friction between the keyboard and screen. I recommend a screen protector if you carry your laptop in this manner.

i think pretty much all of my mac laptops have had this problem eventually.

the MacBook Air M4 i have now (only for about 10 months) doesn't have this problem as of now.
from the way the keyboard sits in a sunken area, it could be that this machine won't develop that problem.
i think this is my most favorite of all the macbooks i have owned.

Seems to be largely a Mac issue, I've seen people complain about keyboard marks on the screen since the powerbook days. I've owned numerous mac laptops over the decades and I've never experienced such an issue, but its something that seems to come and go as a topic and concern

I’ve carried several MBP and MBA laptops in bags for decades and I’ve never once seen an issue on my screens from the keyboard.

I don't think the keyboard itself is hard enough to scratch the display. But something else stuck between the keyboard and the display might.
