Hi
Could someone re-upload applecontrolpanel.exe in rapidshare? The download link given in post #24 no longer works
Thanks :)

Hmmz... link still seems okay here? If you still can't get it psychopomp1, you can just deflate the EXE file from the official Apple Bootcamp package using UniExtract. Or if you want just PM me your email and I can send it to you.

Thank you for your efforts, it will be very helpful for me.

I have questions. According to #24, just download the file that you posted and run the program, then I can adjust the brightness.
Am I right?

Anyway, I downloaded the file and run the program, error occured.
I guess this is for 32bit only.

I have a PC,

RAM 6GB
EVGA GTX 465 1GB
Motherboard: EVGA x58 SLI
Windows7 Ultimate 64bit

Display: Apple 24"

If I'm wrong, please guide me with files. My email is ejjyjjang@gmail.com.
I can't find Boot Camp on Google.

Thank you.

Hi Ashok0 and all

Hi Ashok0 and fellow monitor lovers,
i finally got my monitor and this thing is gorgeous!!! huge is an understatement, coming from a 20in. I took your advice Hi Ashok0 and got the video card.

anyway as posted by the other user i dl'd the control panel but when i double click to exe i get an error.

applecontrolpanelerror.jpg

as you can see its the same error described by the previous poster.
am i missing a dependant file to run the apple control panel? its a lil dim with default settings right now, so it would be great to get this going.

As explained, camera speakers and mic are working !

Windows 7 64 but with ATI 6870

I also run Win 7 64 bit with XFX ATI 6870.

Do you have administrator privileges?

I extracted the .exe file to my main boot drive (C:) and run it from there but it also works when being ran from a secondary drive. Not sure why you're receiving that message. Hope you get it resolved soon to fully enjoy that monitor!

can you upload your exe for me or email? maybe thats the issue? one behavior i notice is taht if i run that exe after extraction i hear my CD rom drive spin ( i dont have a dvd rom, my motherboard has issues with dvd drives)

gonna go sandy bridge real sooon when intel cleans up their mess to replace this faulty MB i have now

Fixed

popped in a Windows XP disc and then app worked! default brightness was like 30% or something. man higher brightness makes this monitor even sexier!!

thanks for all the help, i gonna just have it this way, when i need to adjust brightness pop in the cd.

Hi wing1,

Just for future reference the whole "You may not have priviledges..." error is a known issue on PCs if your BIOS is set to AHCI mode. The 2 workarounds are to either a) Switch from AHCI to IDE mode (not practical if you have an SSD) or b) Simply put a bootable disc in your DVD drive (i.e. Windows XP/Vista/7)

Glad everything worked out for you!

Ash yea i figured, but on my motherboard MSI P6N 650i i just couldn't find that IDE to AHCI option in BIOS.

I have sata HD but i couldnt find an option to use IDE in my motherboard.

So i tried the bootable disk and that did the trick, which is more than adequate. Since i wont be adjusting brightness everyday. Plus

just hope that helps other folks out, and this thing is killer. but i came from a 6 year old 20inch dell.

I came from a 30" DELL, and the 27" ACD just blows me away with its quality build. :D

Unfortunately, I have an SSD and I was wondering if their was another workaround other than leaving my Win7 CD in the DVD drive.

sswitze1,

I think I know why you can only control your brightness from 0-50%.

I made an interesting discovery on using Boot Camp with PCs. Obviously, when PC users install Boot Camp 3.0 + Boot Camp 3.1 Update + Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update, a lot of unnecessary drivers are installed. Believe it or not, it seems there is only one single standalone file needed to control the ACD27" brightness settings on the PC: AppleControlPanel.exe.

Each update (Boot Camp 3.0 + Boot Camp 3.1 Update + Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update) contains a unique version of AppleControlPanel.exe

Using UniExtract, I first extracted AppleControlPanel.exe from the Boot Camp 3.1 Update. When I ran it, the Boot Camp Control Panel came up, and sure enough when I tried to change the brightness I only had control from 0-50%!!!

I then extracted AppleControlPanel.exe from from the Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update, and running this version gave me brightness control from 0-100%.

For some reason, it appears the Apple Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display Update is failing to update your AppleControlPanel.exe. What you need to do is uninstall Boot Camp from your PC. Then download the most current version of AppleControlPanel.exe which I have posted here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/424506361/AppleControlPanel.zip

Now when you run the exe (make sure Boot Camp Services is uninstalled first!!!), your Boot Camp Control Panel will load up and you should now be able to control brightness across the full range!

EDIT: Never mind I made it. APC from Bootcamp 3.2 32bit doesn't have brightness for some reason so I had to do it form 3.1

Here is a link to both X64 and X86 AppleControlPanel.exe

Brightness can be controlled from a PC

Hey

I recently bought a 27" Apple Cinema display, and found my self in the extact same situation.
After reading this thread, and especially the hint from "sswitze1" about the brightness being controlled via USB, and an article on Anandtec referring to the the Brightness controlpanel in Bootcamp, I DL the bootcamp files (version 3.2) from the Apple website.
After DL and unpacking, I looked into the install packages,(with Winrar.exe), and here (BootCampUpdate32.msp) I found one very interesting file "AppleControlPanel.exe".

As an experiment i extracted the file (used winrar.exe) to the desktop, started the program/controlpanel, and voila - full control over the cinema displays brightness :)

Best regards KCL

Easier way to get around the IDE/AHCI issue

I wrestled with this for a day!
I have a new (Lenovo Thinkcentre) PC that I bought only beacuse I wanted the LED Apple Cinema Display (27"), and my Dell didn't have room for the graphics adapter with midiDisplay port.
After trollling around this and other forums and trying some different suggestions, I found this one posted by "cide" on the "hardforum.com":

It works great! I have win 7 32bit professional, and a XFX Radeon 6870 card.

Brightness Control

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually found a better way to get the AppleControlPanel for Brightness to work in Windows 7.
#1) Right Click on "Computer" -> Select "Manage" and in the users area create a user account called: Test (with password: Test) -> Not an admin account!

#2) You have to create a shortcut to the EXE itself, and in the shortcut box change the part that points to the EXE itself (Not the 'Start In" area) Change to: "C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user:test C:\AppleControlPanel.exe" (Or whatever/whereever your ControlPanel filename is...If shortcut is in the same folder as Exe you do not need to enter a harddisk or filepath before AppleControlPanel.exe)

Before creating shortcut like this I was getting the Startup Error every time I tried to control brightness, And there was no way I was going to depreciate my Win7 install with unneeded bootcamp pollution. BTW: My disk drives run in AHCI mode and theres no chance I'll be changing that to IDE to make something run right

Hi There - Newbie with a dumb problem - downloaded the Apple Control Panel but cant get it to open?

Error occured while trying to use the Startup disk or something like that?

I have a PC with Win 64

Love the Mac monitor so far - tried a Viewsonic, Dell U2711 and an Alienware - none compare to this but I must say this all started with my Sony Vaio VGC-LV150J computer which has the brightest and nicest screen I ever saw! Would love for my Mac to be as white and bright! I connected it directly to my alienware ALX system and the camera and speakers work great! I paid $948 New

i seem to be able to control it with my catlyst control center - pretty easy fix - is that the same as using the apple control panel?

No, unfortunately it isn't really a fix at all. AppleControlPanel.exe is the ONLY way to adjust the actual LED backlight in the ACD27". Running the utility will vastly improve the image of your display over Catalyst Control Panel.

If you get the 'Startup disk' error that is usually due to the fact that you have AHCI enabled in your BIOS. If you put a bootable DVD in your drive such as the Windows 7 disc, that should allow AppleControlPanel.exe to run.

I got my ACD 27" yesterday. Since my Dell XPS 15 has a minidisplayport, I was able to test it at work before bring it home. I was not able to launch the applecontrolpanel.exe. Tried all the versions. Even tried the shortcut with the runas trick. Just popping in the Windows 7 DVD is not good enough. I had to make sure my USB DVD drive is CD-ROM 0 in the Disk Management and then it worked.

Then, when I got home, I tried it on my desktop. This is where the ACD will be connected. I put the Windows 7 DVD in my DVD drive that has the label CD-ROM 0 in Disk Management and it did not worked. I tried it on my other DVD drive that is label 1 and that didn't work either. Then, I tried all the other solutions, no luck. I end up connecting the USB to my laptop and make the brightness adjustment.

The laptop and desktop are running in AHCI mode so not really sure why it would work in one and not the other.

Other than the minor pain in the brightness adjustment, this monitor is awesome. So much bigger than my ACD 23".

----------

btw, anyone know why in Device Manager, one iSight driver is loaded and the other one has the yellow exclamation point saying there is no driver? I tried loading the driver from the Bootcamp and that didn't help.
