Apple says that it can drive 2x6K XDR but can it drive 3x4K? I'm just curious to try out a potential configuration. I probably should have bought an M1 MAX with 64 GB RAM. I am curious to see if I can replace my entire desktop computing with a laptop.

No.

M1 Pro - 2 external monitors
M1 Max - 4 external monitors

Yes, I can read the specs.

What I'm looking for is someone that has actually tried to do it.

I've found, on some earlier Macs, that you can use more than what's explicitly stated in the specs on external displays.

I read of someone trying it without success, but I haven't heard of people trying to get very creative about it yet.

I only have one USB-C to DP cable right now so I can’t try it. I was able to get my 2014 MacBook Pro to display to three external monitors and the internal display despite the specs saying that two 4K monitors were supported.
