And still maintain the iPhoto database? I am tired of messing with the photos app on my iMac. It has 27K photos and it is the only one that can't stay in sync with my other macs and iOS devices. I opened up iPhoto today and everything was there. I want to delete the photos library and launch it again. Thanks.

Yes, as long as you can still see all your photos in iPhoto, it is safe to delete the Photos library. They are separate.

So, I deleted it and ran Photos again. It couldn't find the database (of course), so I told it to use the iPhoto database. It started to do it's conversion and after about 15 minutes, I get this error. I am now repairing permissions through Disk Util, but I am not confident at all this will work.

Well, either the repair permission and/or reboot got it to update the library. But, it is still a mess. It states that it has 26, 189 photos and 621 videos. (which sounds right). But now says it is uploading 26,923, which would be everything.
My other macs and IOS report about 8000 photos and 345 videos. Argh
