Audible alarm questions

The iPt does indeed have an external alarm you can hear without headphones. It would never wake me up but I don't think Armageddon would either - I sleep very soundly.

I thought it may be the setting for "Sound Effects" but when I look to mine it is set to Headphone only - perhaps try setting it to Speaker or Both in case it's a bug. (Settings, Sound Effects).

The only thing about it being a PDA is that if you have not done jailbreak yet, and have not gotten the January software upgrade, then you will be relying on the wireless internet access for decent notes, email, etc. The only thing mine has is a contact, clock, calendar and calculator "offline" so make your decision based on wireless availability and the functionality built in. Of course, the upgrade should apply if you buy one now but I got mine on the 15th and it was supposed to have the upgrade in it. I'm trying support to see if they'll do some kind of credit for it.

lovin', learnin' and listenin' like crazy!

I need something that will beep when I set an alarm without the beep going through headphones but when the touch is in my pocket and "powered off" or in whatever mode it can stay in.

From peoples reply earlier, it sounded like this isn't something that the touch ca currently do.

Did I misunderstand?

I had a problem getting my touch to play an alarm through the speaker until I upgraded to 1.1.3. I am happy to report it now it works fine. With the 1.1.3 update plus the new applications, the touch has become an excellent PDA, IMO. In the months to come it can only get better, with the release of the SDK and more software.

So if I purchase a touch in the next month or so and it comes with 1.1.3 already on it, will I be screwed in any way and not be able to run certain software or "jailbreak" it?

From what I've read I need 1.1.3 to fix the alarm problem.

What about the saving calander events, and notes? If I need notes, does that mean I'll have to pay that extra $20 for that package of apps for my touch?

I have wireless at work, but at home there is no signal strong enough (60 or less) that my PSP can use, so I assume it would be the same story with the touch. I'm not too concerned about this, but I want all the apps I use to be locally on my touch and not to be some web app that I have to use the wifi to access.

Anybody seen any good reviews of 1.1.3 so I could maybe get a better feel of what I may be purchasing? All the other reviews list these bugs that I believe have been fixed in the 1.1.3

The 1.1.3 firmware has not yet been jailbreaked, so you won't be able to do that.

Legally, yes.

Back to topic: I think it is, for the better part. I'm using it to keep track of stuff I have to do, appointments, classes, and I sometimes read my email on it.

Where it lacks though, is the inability to have email and other information everywhere, like the iPhone. Mail and Maps are great, but can only be used in a few situations. You can't use Maps on the road (except if there's ome WiFi hotspot somewhere), and you can't read Mail while not having wireless internet. While you might have that at home, school, or work, there's a large chance there's a computer to do those same things - better.
