Is there a risk of damaging iTunes by adding your own art for genre thumbnails?

Hmmmm. I use pictures that I have stored in iPhoto for some of my music that I can't find cover art for. So far ,no problems.

That would be album artwork.

I meant artwork for the genre thumbnails. not individual titles.

No, there's no risk. There's websites out there with instructions and custom genre artwork.
