Can Time Machine be connected to AirPort Extreme?

I replaced my Airport Extreme with a 2GB Time Machine. I disconnected the Airport Extreme and it now just sits along side the activated Time Machine. Is there a way to connect the Airport to the Time Machine and how would I get them to work together? And what advantage would there be if I could connect them -- what would I gain? Should I even bother?

If you want to expand your wifi coverage area, you could put your Extreme in a different location to cover more ground with wifi. No benefit to having them both working in the same spot though.
