Can Time Machine restore a broken app?

I am suddenly getting errors in an office suite program on my MacBook Pro (OpenOffice). Rather than reinstall the program, can I do a simple Restore from Time Machine of that whole app from a previous date?

I am running Yosemite on this laptop.

Yes.

If the issue is with the app and your restore it, yes. If the issue is related some of its components in the ~/Library folder, I'm not sure restoring the app will solve that problem

This is most likely a App Store issue... we have a lot of these since midnight (Europe)

OpenOffice doesnt come from the App Store....
