I would be 100% confident that the next iPhone will be HSPA+ compliant. As mentioned the Verizon qualcomm chip is ALREADY HSPA+ compliant, and theres no reason to drop that functionality, and they will want to use as many of the same chip as possible.

P.S. HSPA+ is true, real, 4G

It's more like 3.5G

Since the iPhone 4 can handle up to 7.2 mbps I don't see the necessity for 4g at all. 7.2 mbps is lightning fast!

Anyone who says they must have more than 7.2 mbps is obviously just a idiot who bogs down the network and hurts everyone else by streaming and downloading torrents

I play a lot of online games, watch Netflix and other online videos, and download a lot of stuff on my PS3. A 7.2 mbps connection isn't going to cut it, and I don't see the practicality of using my phone as my sole internet source.

I agree :)

If anything I really hope that the next iPhone DOES NOT have 4g LTE or HSPA+ just because I personally figure it would encourage people to bog down the network for everyone by using the phone as their sole internet source.

Anyone who says they absolutely must have more than 7.2 mbps on their phone (and that 2 - 4 seconds is too long to wait for a web page to load on their phone) is just an idiot that is bogging down the network streaming and downloading torrents all the time which hurts everyone else.

are you really getting 7.2 Mbps??! the best I ever got was 2.85!

Nobody get 7.2 mbps. 7.2 mbps is theoretical. I get around 3 mpbs on agv.

Yup... 7.2 mbps iPhone 4 is LIGHTNING fast :)

Saying that a 7.2 mbps iPhone 4 isnt fast enough would be just as bad as whining that an instant microwave doesn't cook your food fast enough

And when have you or anyone got that speed on 3G? Yeah that's what I thought. 7.2mbps is theoretical most people are getting half of that speed at best. 7.2 mbps is fast, I get that or more on wifi but never on 3G.

Ok coming out this year, in a limited region no doubt. So there is no way SJ is going to bless a phone that works in 3 cities, correct?

So. The OP, maybe 2012.

Att whole network is gong to support HSPA+ not a region.

I'm guessing you forgot Att got rid of their unlimited data. only 2% of people go over 2GB a month I'm sure the small percentage downloading torrents isn't going to hurt your data speed

Yeah I didn't say people currently get it, but people thinking that the next iPhone needs 4g are being pretty foolish :p

Even if Att's HSPA+ network averaged 100 mbps and the iPhone was capped at 7.2 mbps who cares? 7.2 mbps is lightning fast for a smart phone and anyone who says they absolutely need more than that is just bogging down the network for everyone else by downloading torrents or streaming all the time...

And I'm guessing you forgot that Att grandfathers unlimited data to the heavy users that already have it. As data speeds get higher and higher you'll have more heavy users being tempted to ditch their wifi to put a greater strain on the network by using the iPhone as their sole internet source.

I'm sure the small percentage downloading torrents isn't going to hurt your data speed

Nice assumption but thats not really true. "About 3 percent of [AT&T's] smart phone customers are driving about 40 percent of the [wireless data] traffic" - Ralph de la Vega

3% of people who are grandfathered into unlimited data bog down almost half of the network and you think that is not going to affect our data speeds? :p

well the iPhone didn't need 3G also then. I mean edge was good enough for some

I don't know why you keep saying 7.2 mbps, that's theoretical nobody gets that. Most people get half at best. 3.0 mbps is ok but if theres a better faster network for the same price that's the one I want.

And I'm guessing you forgot that Att grandfathers unlimited data to the heavy users that already have it. As data speeds get higher and higher you'll have more heavy users being tempted to ditch their wifi to put a greater strain on the network by using the iPhone as their sole internet source.

Then att need to do what T-Mobile and Verizon does and throttle data to those user. take your tin foil cap off.

I currently pull 8mbps off my EVO 4G and i still want more. How is wanting faster on a phone so bad? Thats like telling me I don't deserve a high preforming engine in a small car because the car is so small. Apply that logic to the real-world and Lotus as a car manufacturer wouldn't be around. I'm personally stoked for an HSPA+ iPhone and will be jumping ship this summer for it(Good thing I kept my iPhone 2G plan to get my unlimited data back! :D)

Att is going to have two 4G networks HSPA+ and LTE. HSPA+ is out coming out this year, they wont have LTE until next year
HSPA+ is done and it's everything that was 3G. LTE will be launched in select markets around May/June.

It's more like 3.5G
Does is really matter? I saw an HTC Inspire 4G hit 15mbps on a speed test! AT&T and T-Mobile call it 4G and if I can get 10-14mbps on my phone I could care less what they call it and I'd be happy... for a little while.

Screen shots?
For some reason that second one show no network which is weird.
