I thought I read they had updated USB ports.

Anyway can we BOOT USB whatever it is off of the new MacBooks?
 
Target Disk Mode is not possible with USB, as of now. Maybe USB could be hacked by Apple to support it, but as of now the MacBook is targetless.

And the next version of USB is 3.0.
 
I don't think we have IP over USB ...

Don't know how FW target mode worked, but likely FW-IP networking.

Would be nice if etherboot replaced it.

Edit: I can see Apple not wanting to support Target mode over ethernet, since that is darn close to turning a Mac into a network drive.
