Can we target disk mode through usb 2.1 into the new MacBooks?
The new MacBooks do not have USB 2.1
I don't even think USB 2.1 is a standard.
I thought I read they had updated USB ports.
Anyway can we BOOT USB whatever it is off of the new MacBooks?
You can move files over using an ethernet cable and file sharing enabled. If they're already on the same network and in the same workgroup you can transfer files via the network.
so the answer is yes to boot usb but no target mode
Target Disk Mode is not possible with USB, as of now. Maybe USB could be hacked by Apple to support it, but as of now the MacBook is targetless.
And the next version of USB is 3.0.
I don't think we have IP over USB ...
Don't know how FW target mode worked, but likely FW-IP networking.
Would be nice if etherboot replaced it.
Edit: I can see Apple not wanting to support Target mode over ethernet, since that is darn close to turning a Mac into a network drive.
Ever heard of netboot?
