I am doubtful about a 256GB iphone 7, but who knows.

Hoping that when 256GB becomes the top tier, 16GB will no longer be the bottom tier...

4K video is irrelevant as of now because its market penetration is so small. There's not even a guarantee that it will catch on en masse at all at this point.

Are you kidding? 27" iMacs and 13" Macbook Pros are already over 1080p and they're only going to get more pixels in the future. The cheaper Macs aren't there yet but they'll certainly catch up.

I'm not saying 4K is widespread yet, mind you, but in what world do you expect the resolution of these computers to go down in the future?

I agree, definitely not on the iPhone 7. Maybe the iPhone 8. It will be a bigger deal once they kill off the 16GB and make 32GB standard. 32/64/128 is what you'll likely see in the iPhone 7.

If you look at the strategy with the iPad Pro of 32/128 options I think they will stick with 16/64/128 until they can move to 32/128/256 - which may still be a few years off. I think the 16 GB phone is an insult on the 6S. It had its place upto the 6 but with 4K video recording and apps/photos getting larger the user experience is going to suffer. Switching to a 32/64/128 model will cost Apple a lot as less people will opt for the middle config so we will have to wait until the 128 GB option becomes cheaper for Apple to purchase and there is a viable 256 GB option available on the market.

Pandora, Netflix YouTube etc all negate a need for big storage on a phone. i have zero songs or movies on my phone

I'm expecting 32,64,128 gig options for the iPhone 7. I expect that we will get a 256 gig iPhone when 64 gigs becomes the base model (so it would be 64, 128, 256)

Shoot Apple is taking a generation to upgrade the 16GB version. I can't see 256GB as there's no huge demand for it. Right now the happy place seems to be 64/128; haven't heard much of I need more memory.

4K is cool but I still see it as 3D at this point and niche. Not widely implemented.

Apple wants people to use their cloud services, 16GB isn't likely to go anywhere in the next few generations.

I think it will come with the iPhone 8 at the earliest.

The iPad pro will be the first iOS device with the option next fall.

Maybe for you but it's not the case for a lot of other people out there. I don't have unlimited data on my cellular plan nor is Wi-Fi available everywhere so it's impossible to rely on streaming. There is still a definite need for local storage. I have 70GB used up on my 113GB capacity 128GB phone. That leaves 43GB free which I could easily use up if I decided to.

There's an old saying, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"

You will be very very upset should that device gets lost/stolen, crashes, or cease to function for whatever reason.

Are you referring to my post ? If so then that's not an issue as I have a back as well as all my apps, music, movies, podcasts etc. stored in iTunes on my Mac. Plus there is also the option of using an iCloud back up. I'm very unlikely to lose anything and have never been in that situation.

I seriously doubt they will ever keep the 16 gb around next to a 128 and a 256 gb option. That just looks straight up stupid.

I got 16 gb on my iPhone 6 and this will definitley be my last time doing 16 gigs. Its manageable for me as I stream literally everything on my phone but will opt for the extra storage going forward.
You responded nicely to that nonsense post. However, I can see apple ditching the 16gb on the iphone 7. The question is there going to be a worthy spec bump. I'm sure most of us did not see that huge spec increment coming with the 6s.

No, I was just making a general comment to the OP question/thread. Personally I don't believe there is a need for 256 gig option for smartphones especially with syncing locally or to the cloud as you mentioned. Removable storage was a better concept, less expensive and didn't require cloud services. Knowing manufactures, those high capacity devices will be well over $1000 USD.

A 256GB ipad would be more likely first. Laptop replacement and all.

Apple also want to sell their MacBook line otherwise who will buy their MacBooks if iPad has so much storage. Plus the cloud storage these days so it would put Apple's other products in danger.
