For couple years now, all we see is better camera, better processor, smaller bezels, lighter weight which are good but far from innovation.

What can we expect to see in new Ipad launch in the 4th quarter?

In term of usability, there is nothing new thats why im still hangin on my Ipad 2 just so i can read news and some web browsing in the morning. No interest to upgrade because ios7 didn't slow down my device that much.

IMO, if apple just added the finger scan in the Ipad Air design then it won't do much to the deline Ipad sales this year.

I dono, but I'm gonna get one, and you should too. I enjoy my rMini because I can put in my back pocket and go.... But at home I use an iPad 3 sometimes (like now) and I'm standing and typing with my thumbs. This dude is too heavy to use like this for extended periods. Conversely, my wife's Air is 1/2 lb lighter and can be easily used in this manner, but it's hers and I don't use it.
The major innovations have taken place already and can't envision what else could be done in that department.
So, no I don't tnink that we will see much else coming in the innovation department, but it is just the sheer pleasure of a lighter full size iPad that makes it more of a joy to use.
Yup she will probably get the new model, but I'll be happy with the first gen Air...when at home.
The rMini is still my main squeeze.

I'm thinking a thinner design, better camera, touch id. There's not too much that they can add.

iPad Air 2 :

- Touch ID
- Better Camera
- AC WiFi
- More RAM & A8 chip

Maybe

- LED Flash
- Better display
- Bigger battery = 12 hrs

Thinner?

Sorry but I say STOP with the thinner!

I'm with you and all for heavier, bigger and thicker!!

One thing that might be nice is better speakers, and perhaps proper stereo or speakers on both sides so when it's in landscape you get sound from both sides. Admittedly, that's a very minor gripe, an external speaker or headphones addresses that issue.

Fingerprint scanner, big yawn.

Better camera or LED flash, you mean this thing has a camera now? ;-)

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the next version, other than boring (or expected but not gobsmacking) upgrades given they've done so well with the last iteration of the Air and rMini.

What I'd like to see is Touch ID, A8 with 2 GB of RAM, 12 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, and wifi AC. I think these are all reasonable.

I don't think that the 2014 iPad will include:
- Touch ID
- Better Camera
- A8 chip
(it might get more RAM)

This might be the first year where Apple doesn't announce a full-sized iPad with new features.

Research has shown that consumers are on a longer upgrade cycle than the iPhone. They may slow the cycle to gain some more profits from selling the same device for a 2nd year (no additional R&D for that gen)

Lets hope Apple puts to good use the purchase of Beats audio and incorporates it into the iDevices. :)

I highly doubt it. They would make a killing by simply releasing a new iPad with a better processor and more RAM.

I'm waiting..........

I don't like to wait. I hate long lines in a store, or bank - but I'm waiting for the next gen Air. I will buy one to replace my 3. Even though my rMini is my take every where device, I want an Air for at home use.
I'll be disappointed if Apple doesn't add some bells and whistles to make my wait worthwhile.
I like the feel of my wife's Air, but never get to use it. She uses hers as much as I do, so I'm buying one, but not just yet. The new Air needs to stay light, however, cause if it doesn't, my wife will get the new one and I'll keep her 1lb Air.

The air is pretty awesome precisely because it can barely be improved. Apple has reduced the whole experience down to just the screen. It can't be thinner. It can hardly be lighter. The bezel can hardly be reduced. I believe the product will be in essentially this form for decades. Sure beats audio will be nice but the audio is already great with a $40 hmdx jam speaker. That is what I used for the last eighteen months, no problem.

I hope to keep my air for at least a few years. I regard it as pretty much perfection. For just about anything, reading or tv or movies or music. I do find the games on it mostly one dimensional and dumb. My ps4 better handles that dept. tho not by much since so far all the games except metal gear and tomb raider have sucked. And I didn't care much for the gameplay mechanics of tr tho the graphics were beautiful

Not worth thinner unless you can roll it up.

Possibly be 'singin in the rain' with the air2 in tow.

They will just add a color...

That's magical. They will release a new smart cover in gold color.

They might release a smart cover with beats logo on it.

I'm thinking about buying a 2014 retina mini later this year if/when they're released. A8, Touch ID, more RAM, AC wireless, longer battery life would all be nice improvements, although nothing that would really redefine the iPad experience.

Well, I hope you're wrong. I agree there is very little that COULD be done to improve upon the design, but what they CAN do, they should do. At a minimum, processor and memory need to be boosted. While I'm dreaming, maybe Apple will change it's mind on user-replaceable batteries. :D

I'm hoping for more RAM, don't think the A8 will make the things I do on my iPad much quicker. iOS 8 will probably be the biggest change for us if the rumor of being able to run apps side by side. Being able to watch a video or something and browse the web in another window would make me love my iPad even more.

Instead of continuing to go thinner and lighter, I would love if they kept the same size (or even slightly bigger) and just added more battery inside. Would be great to get a solid 15-20 hours of usage from one charge.
