In simple terms, I think the basic specs for the iPad will be:

The same A4 chip(possibly clocked higher than it is now).
Half a GB of RAM(1GB is possible, but unlikely).
FaceTime cameras(the same cameras that are in the current iPod touch).

The iPhone is still the prom queen, and will receive the best hardware improvements first.

That's why the iPad shipped with A4 before the iPhone 4 were announced?

... and HDMI out. (One can dream)

No, please nothing with cables. I rather buy an appleTV, which is after all not that much more expensive than a good HDMI cable. Ok, a bit more expensive, but offers so much more ...

I want everything without cables. I'm tired of looking at the cable mess behind the TV and entertainment system and connecting mobile devices to cables (which makes them no longer mobile)

I agree. HDMI for me is useless.
USB however might be useful for me.. but whatever. STILL buying ipad 2 blindly!!!

So, you're going to take your Apple TV and iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch to your friend's house. I'd rather just take a HDMi cable and my iDevice. Rather than taking an Apple TV, which is much more likely to be broken, than a cable.

I don't really have anything in my ipod touch/iphone/ipad.. I stream everything from my pc so I wouldn't be connecting from my idevice to friend's tv.

Either they will stream from my pc server at home or I just don't bother.. Honestly, this day and age, plus me being tech nerd, all my friends have same thing or more.. :)

And I have droid X , not iphone and even with it's hdmi out, I have used it once(just for demo purpose)... Phone w/ hdmi for 99% of the crowds are useless. You are not going to find many people who regularly plunking out hdmi cable so that they can play something off their phone through tv..
Idea of hdmi out for phone is so usless unless they can enhance battery technology(even at that, it's really hassle and useless; after few times, people will just buy dedicated media player)
DLNA like technology(like airplay) will completely replace need for hdmi for phone in near future.

Trust me on that one.

Agreed. Almost every phone that has been demoed at CES so far, had an HDMI port. A total waste.

Yep, plus what they fail to tell you is that their HDMI ports don't output protectected content.

HDMI for presentations. Sure, but not every office or confrence room is set up with HDMI. If your presentation is that important, PLAN AHEAD. Bring your laptop.

None of my friends have an AppleTV. Therefore, the easiest way for me would be to plug in a HDMI from my phone to the TV (which most of them have), to play the movie. I've use this way much much more than streaming; I believe that once, my friend streamed a movie from his computer to a PS3.

I agree with you when you say that streaming is the future, but not everyone has that equipment...yet. I do, but I'm 'tech savy' (I will never use that phrase again). And most of my 'tech savy' friends put their movie on a DVD / Blu ray disk, not streaming. But, if there was enough space in their apartments (and if they had bigger TV's), I'm sure they would use some sort of streaming - not using Apple products - as, apart from one other, I'm the only one who loves Apple products.

I knew we are all brother and sister here. :)

My love for apple stuff is unquestionable. :D

Even iOS4.0 seemed to be a "catch-up to the competition" release for the phone. My driod phone was already doing what iOS4.0 "introduced". (things like folders and multitasking).

In terms of features like those, iOS always was catching up from the very beginning even before Android. I have a Nokia Symbian phone that was doing folders and multitasking years ago well before Android. Ditto for Windows Mobile and users of Symbian and Windows Mobile claimed vehemently iPhone will fail because it lacked so many features. We know what happened.

"rather less features, but those working good"

That statement seems to ring true.

I couldn't agree more. Still it should be said Apple is far from infallible and we know some features, especially the notification system, on iOS is very lacking. Hopefully they can polish those areas and introduce some innovations in usability.
