Can we pick up 17" MBP Unibody from FEDEX Facility?

Hi..

I am in anxious about receiving my MBP, status is as follows:

Departed FedEx location
ANCHORAGE, AK Feb 19, 2009 1:47 PM (Local time, or 5:47 PM EST)

Arrived at FedEx location
ANCHORAGE, AK Feb 19, 2009 10:52 AM

In Transit to
ANCHORAGE, AK Feb 19, 2009 2:32 AM

Left FedEx origin facility
SHANGHAI CN Feb 18, 2009 12:35 PM

Picked up

It is en route to NY. Do you think it will be delivered to me Friday? If not, will I be able to pick it up from a FedEx facility on Friday night or Saturday morning? Do they allow pickup at a FedEx facility? Has anyone ever done so?

UPDATE: International Shipment Release at Indianapolis as of 1:05AM!! Will it make it to NY in time for Friday delivery??
 
Fedex would know. Seriously. Anything can happen inbetween now and then. I don't think they have a hub in NY , atleast i've never seen any of my packages routed through there, but then again I could be thinking about UPS.

Anyway, call these guys : 1.800.Go.FedEx (800.463.3339).
 
I'll call them tomorrow if it doesn't make it on a delivery truck and update status to you guys. But if anyone has ever picked up anything from a FedEx location before let me know. It has to be sitting somewhere in NY over the weekend and would like to know where I can pick it up.

Call them and then, you can------I did in this way
 
that sucker is going to Memphis, then NY, all have my ipods have gone: china>anchorage>Memphis>then to Seattle>my house. sorry buddy.
 
Usually, they have to attempt delivery at least once. After that you can call and have them hold the package at the local station. You can't pick up a package from the local hub only the station.
 
What do I call and say? That I needed this package by this weekend? And they don't give you any issues? What are their business hours on the weekend when you go and pick up?

Which one should I call? My tracking page doesn't specify.

I've always been able to go pick up my FedEx packages, but only on weekdays - never heard of being able to do it on weekends. Sorry, wish I had better news...

How exactly did Fedex go by this? I mean identifying you as the rightful recipient, directing you to the proper facility and such? I think I'm just going to call a random one of those telephone numbers and hope for the best.

I answer is YES and maybe No.

I called my FedEx lady and she said it depends on the hub and location of where you package is going.

For example, mind is suppose to be at my door steps before 10:30am in San Jose, CA.

But if it makes it to San Jose by Friday it has the chance to be ready by Saturday since they have open the container and etc.

The FedEx location is open form 10am-5pm on Saturday and don't mind the pick up, so it depends on the location where yours is being sent to.

Well every FedEx delivery I have ever tracked (and UPS too) clearly shows an expected delivery date at the top-- not just the package progress notes as posted in the first post, so I would imagine the OP would have a better answer by looking there. That takes all the interim shipping points and times into account, so is usually dead on accurate- and if storms or something delay it, it is noted on the form too.

That has been the case with me a few times. They would not allow me to pick up a package at their facility until they attempted delivery at least one time. I think it is a policy of theirs.

I may be waiting until Monday too.
 
That's funny...My MBP is on the same plan (From Indianapolis...Ultimate destination - NY)....My delivery day shows Monday (I'm in Eastern LI) but by 10:30....which probably means it will make it to the local depot today or tomorrow...They definitely let you pick it up...I've done it before many times......Can't wait....first MAC and I already received my 24" ACD, Time Capsule, Keyboard, CS4, and laptop stand.....Just waiting on this last shipment.......If it gets out here by tomorrow I am definitely picking it up!!
 
Mines in the main Boston sort facility as of 6:30 this morning. I'm not sure they can sort and get it to my sort location before the trucks leave.
 
Where in NY do we pick it up from? It should already be in NY by now.. its just a matter of if it made the FedEx vehicles for delivery or not..

I'm also expecting my new MBP! I just called FedEx and the CSR told me that Apple/FedEx doesn't allow pickup of packages prior to the first delivery attempt. She said that once the package is at the local FedEx facility, it still has to be sorted out of its container, etc. etc.

Whether the story she told me is true or not, I just thought I'd share my experience!

-sigh- Now I have to wait until Monday. :(
 
I received an external hard drive last week on a very cold day in NY, the drive came out of the box cold as a brick of ice. The manual stated to let the drive (if delivered in extreme hot or cold environments) time to reach room temp, does this go for our laptops too?
 
typically fedex is a little easier to deal with then UPS on pickups.

where i live, fedex can be picked up anytime after 5pm once the delivery failure has happened. ups is after 730, and you have to call and tell them, and wait for a call back. even then, it hasnt 100% of the time been ready

as far as the OP question. fedex hub is where you will need to pick it up. they have an office in the front which allows for pickups. if you call ahead of time, they may hold it without a delivery attempt, but at that point, it wont be any faster then them delivering it. as soon as a fedex package is at teh hub in your area, it goes on a truck for delivery that day (or next morning if it is after a certain time). only then, will you be able to pick it up
