Now I know 5g is not that significant yet exactly but regardless what iPhone model will support which bands? Will the lower two support just sub6 and the higher models support both sub6 and high band? Please!! I need answers !! On a side note, let’s see which carriers light up a significant amount of new 5g sites for this launch!!!

Then I'll suggest that you wait for the Apple event as everything you will read before that is nothing but speculation.

"Answers" are all over the internet and the news. Facts will have to wait for things to actually happen.

You'll know when Apple announces it.

If Apple can’t provide a performant chip that covers all bands and doesn’t drain the battery, then maybe they shouldn’t add it this year. People who want 5G for whatever reason will not be happy to find out it only works under special conditions from the phone and the carrier.

The biggest benefit I see from 5G right now is segregating signals to open up 4G lines to provide more consistent speeds for those still on it. But if you use a carrier whose signal is not supported by the 5G on your phone, then it‘s worthless and you’re better off turning it off to save battery.

it kind of goes against the idea of a “standard” when the standard is broken up into sub-standards. They’ve been doing this with USB for years. It’s all frustrating from a consumer standpoint. You can’t just say “I have 5G!” It’s all dependent on variables. How is that “standard?”

And let me take this opportunity to say “F* you, AT&T” for the continued misleading “5Ge” marketing. How many times do I have to tell friends and family that they don’t have 5G!?

In my country, we have 5 major carriers. Although they all have LTE, only one has VoLTE, and it's not the number 1, 2, nor 3 carrier. On the top 3 carriers, sometimes their 3G are still more reliable than their 4G (slower, but more reliable connection). The number 5 carrier often still fallback to 2G for voice.

I'm not holding my breath for 5G.

I think right now 4G speed is working well and as far as 5G is concerned it is mostly for downloading Games or some other stuff.

Sub-6 and mmWave: United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom

Sub-6 only: Rest of world

There was just a podcast discussing 5G, and how it wouldn’t be readily matured throughout the entire World until 2022. What we’re seeing now, is carriers using 5G as a leverage point to upgrade your phone to have the latest speeds, when you can’t even take advantage of 5G given your location.

5G Signals are known to struggle penertrating buildings that have thick walls so will be interesting to see how many signal drop outs 5G users get when they are in buildings.

This + lower latency theoretically are the real reasons why 5g is a worthy upgrade. I'd wager many use cases of 5g aren't actually out yet, they will come once the technology is actually ready.
I think it's somewhat humorous that 5G allows better throughput with large crowds, but we aren't supposed to have large crowds now

5g isn't only about top speed. It can have a lot more concurrent users without lowering the average speed.

Yep, these.

I'm able to stream videos after a lengthy buffering time but fast forward or rewind? Forget it.

5G is going to open up a whole spectrum of new possibilities, many of which have not even been thought of yet, especially when it comes to augmented reality and gaming, but business and medicine as well. I envy those that have the gift to be a creative developer, I think you are going to have a lot of fun in the coming years.

Although I don't plan to upgrade in the first instance, I am really looking forward to embracing 5G

But just a minute, wait until 6G comes along :)

Are you - very elegantly- stating that 5G will be great for many things and that at the same time you cannot come up with one example for an actual real world benefit other than guessing certain industries might benefit from it? :D

We've seen many actual use-cases in countries where 5G deployment was a priority.

For example, open pit and underground mining. Remote operators supervise or control autonomous trucks for mining above and trains below ground. This is already in use at various sites in several provinces.

Actual brain surgery was done on 5G more than a year ago. During the initial months of COVID, before it was contained, many hospitals used 5G for telemedicine and to share CT results.

There are live services like UGAME that provide cloud-based games, so no monolithic downloading required.

Exactly!! And FYI I wouldn’t have started this thread if I didn’t already have 5g from these carriers where I live, work (use it at work) and play!! That’s why I’m praying that all 4 models get all the necessary currently supported bands and tech

I lied lol. I just want the top two phones to get them so I don’t have to buy 4 phones lol BUT last year I only bought one so it’s make up time lol

I’m so mad with Verizon, I just found out I can only get 5G if I upgrade to a different plan that’s $10 more per line per month. If I remember correctly, they didn’t charge extra for 4g back in 2010. Who knows, maybe they’ll change this when the iPhones are released. But anyway, I’m not paying $10 more per line per month for something that has spotty coverage at the moment.
