When the speculation of September 12th being the keynote first began, I had just been in a car accident. I had surgery on my arm which caused me to miss a few weeks of work. So, needless to say I got a few days behind on a few bills. At some point I checked my upgrade eligibility and even though I was just 2 days past the due date, it told me basically to pay my bill if I wanted to upgrade with any type of subsidy. I could however buy at full retail.

In the past, AT&T has allowed people with past due accounts upgrade, assuming they're not >30 days past due. After that, they usually require a payment before they'll let you do anything.

If you're past due period they're not letting you upgrade at all. This means 1 day after your due date and beyond.

Ridiculous

I find it utterly ridiculous how people on here are judging someone's financial situation. One question was asked and it was immediately assumed that they were broke and bad with money..Jesus this is a forum and finding out info is the point. To answer your question in a civil way, yes AT&T will request that you pay the bill at the end of the transaction.

When I tried to buy an iPhone the first time around like 4 years ago my parents and I had forgotten to pay the bill and they wouldn't let me purchase the phone until someone called in to pay the late bill off. That was either when I was buying my first iPhone or upgrading to the 4... I forget, but the result would be the same.
