Can you be connected to multiple devices at once?

I have some mpow buds and Im able to connect to my iphone and pc laptop at the same time. I can only listen in on one at a time but they can be connected at the same time. I have noticed that I can't do that with the airpods, is this an option? I hate having to switch in the settings on X device when I want to listen to something.

AirPods 2/Pro do this now with IOS14.
