Can you create a bootable USB from the Gray Mac OS X Installation Disks?

Hey there,

So my CD drive is broken and I want to avoid purchasing an external cd drive to do a clean install. Is there a way to create a bootable usb? I attempted this with the following guide...

However I end up getting an error message. Maybe you cannot do this to the gray disks? Unless there is a way around it..

No, you can't use disk maker that way...Since it's no longer available for download, I think the only way out is to cave in and buy a cheap drive...Maybe you can borrow one?

You could try CarbonCopyCloner (version 3.4.7 is still free) or SuperDuper! to make a 1:1 copy from the DVD to a properly formatted USB flash memory thumb drive.

Great minds think alike, I was just about to suggest that...I've never used CC though so can't say if it will work or not..It should in theory.

So I created the .img file using disk utility and then downloaded SuperDuper! and attempted to use that. I think I have a faulty usb stick as it has given me issues in the past. I will try it on a new 8 gb usb stick soon
