So I use a external DAC for my headphones, and USB Bose Companion 5 speaks. I frequently switch between the two, but the my audio device list is a complete mess. It shows every monitor output, it shows the headphone jack on the Mac, it shows the optical output and headphone jack on my OWC thunderbolt dock. There's like 7 audio outputs to select from.

Is there anyway to disable some of those so they don't show up? On Windows, I would simply disable them from the device manager and be done with it.
 
Have you looked at - SoundSource Works great and they have a free trial so you can try it out?

I have been using it for years and it's worth every penny!

I'll take a look at it, thanks. I didn't see any device management options from the webpage, and there doesn't appear to be a online manual.
