Can you disable faces in messages still?

Much prefer to see names then faces in messages, personally

Do you mean Contact Photos? You can disable it still, so when you look at the list of messages the photos/initials aren't there. BUT it now shows the contact photo/initials in each message at the top of the screen. Which is annoying and takes up too much space imo

I have the icons back or new at the top of messages and I want them to go away. :-(
