Hi all,

I've brought a new external screen for my unibody MBP this week.

Now can you shut the lid on the MBP with it going to sleep ?

I have the power connected and the external screen, mouse and keyboard attached.

I phoned apple support today and the bloke said I could by changing the power settings.

I can't see how I do this. I couldn't do it over the phone because when I phoned apple support I wasn't near the laptop.

Can anyone please confirm yes or no.

I have a friend at work who said his AIR doesn't go to sleep when the lid is shut. So surely the MBP can do the same ???

Many thanks

That's not how it works.

You connect everything, you shut the screen, it goes to sleep.

Then you click the mouse or press a key on the keyboard and it wakes up, leaves the onboard screen off, and turns on the external screen.

Should work, at least. Have at thee!

Your friend probably has InsomniaX installed because no Mac stays awake when the lid is closed unless a 3rd party app is install or an external display is present.
