When in store pickup comes available, can you reserve a iPhone at the store with the trade in option? Right now if you do it all online, you have to send the device in. I would like to reserve at the store and do a trade in. Possible?

Yes, you can. You can make the reservation for in store pickup, and then ask an employee to do a trade in. You'll be given your phone's value in the form of an Apple Store gift card and you can use that as payment towards your new phone.

Doesn’t the online process take the full amount off of your credit card already when you do an in store pickup? So you would get a credit?

I believe if you select the trade in upon check out, you'll need to wait for them to ship out the separate box. Now if you order for in-store pick up and didn't choose the trade in and check out but take it to the Apple store and do it then you should be fine.

This is how I did it last year with the trade in. I did an in-store pick up but didn't choose the trade in option at check out. I took the phone with me to the Apple store and did it there, and then credit me back the trade in value via my debit card and then I was able to pay that amount on my credit card used.

Sounds good if it will work with a credit card also. I’m one of the few without a debit card, just have an ordinary ATM card.

Through the online process, they refund you the value of the phone on your order after they receive the device.

I’ve heard it will go back to the original payment method unless for you reason it can’t or you no longer have it, only then will it be a Apple gift card
Additionally, if you decide to do the trade-in *after* the purchase is fully completed, they won’t do a refund credit and it will instead be a gift card.

Source: did this 2 years ago when I left the store after picking up my phone then came back a little later to trade in my old one.

And depending on how they handle it, you can actually have the value be debited to your debit card and I’ve done this last year. Made a purchase on my credit card. Then did the give back trade in and they asked me if I would like to put it on a different card used and I happily gave them my debit card to process.

Can you trade in a paid iPhone X and receive a gift card to apply to a new Apple upgrade program?
