I have download a backup/sync app called Chronosync and backed up my Home - Pictures folder onto a FAT32 HD that is sitting on my local LAN. (I have a mac mini ad a winxp PC both connected to a router - each share the internet connection). Once the folder (Pictures) has been copied to the remote HD I would like to test it to see if everything could actually be imported back to iphoto. Can you set up a new user on a mac where iphoto would be 'empty'? Then I could try and import my backup from the remote HD and see if it snc'd OK and works.

Im pretty sure if you make a new account a new iphone library will be created but I don't know if your idea will work, but I also don't see why it won't work. So it's worth a try.
